Let’s talk websites.

If You’re Building Your Own Website…

At this point in my business, I outsource my website designs and work to a graphic designer and my online business manager. But that’s only because I’ve built my business to the point where I can afford to outsource and delegate.

At the very beginning, I was the one doing all the changes to my site.

I committed to learning WordPress and the Divi Theme.

This worked really well in the beginning because when we’re getting started we’re always evolving.

We’re trying to find our grounding, our footing, and really discover who we are as experts, and coaches and consultants. You’re trying to discover what your brand is about, what to you’ll offer.

Your price points might change, your lead generation systems or your freebies or opt-in offers might change.

It’s good to be able to easily update the information on your website.

I recommend that you begin by using WordPress or Squarespace to build your site. There are a few other tools out there but I don’t believe in them as strongly as I do WordPress and Squarespace.

People say: If you’re not embarrassed by your first website then you’ve waited too long.

And that’s true!

You need to start before you’re ready!

Just dive into it!

If you’re starting out by selling services it’s okay to just have a few pages on your site: a home page, a work with me page and a contact page.

You don’t have to make it complicated!

Start small.

The most important thing is to start attracting clients and start selling what you have.

But before you can do that, you need a website that really expresses who you are, what you do and what your brand is about. And that comes across in the most professional way possible.

It might be a little sloppy in the beginning, a little bit messy. That’s okay!
If you’re really embarrassed by it, that’s a problem, however, you need to start now and then fix it as you go.

As soon as you can afford to, hire a graphic designer or an OBM to help you. But don’t let it stop you from getting started.

Most Important things to get done in the beginning:

Create a Home Page that really captivates people! That expresses who you are in less than 5 sec. Because people create a perception of you in those first few second.

Have a home page that you’re proud of!

It doesn’t have to text heavy, there can be a lot of images, there can be visuals.

I’m a firm believer in the power of three. So include three little bubbles or graphics on the home page that express the three different things that you do or three different ways you can help people.

Or just think about the user experience.

I had certain buttons on my website in the beginning that said something along the lines of: “I want to get more traffic to my website” , “I’m looking for a consultant to help me with x, y and z…”

What this buttons basically said was: “hey is this you? If so click on it” and then you’ll be sent to one of my offerings. Something that I wanted to sell whether it be a service or a product.

It’s not just about you, it’s about the person who is coming to your site and how you can help them.

How can you make it easy for them to understand what it is you do?
